For a brief moment this morning, there was a small reminder of why I still do this every day! These sights have been rare in the last few months but I try to make sure I witness as many of them as possible and always aim to improve on the last. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it’s best to move on. Bordeaux is pretty much on my doorstep which is why I’ve spent so much time here over the years. Five minutes after this, the rain rolled in and that was it for the day. Back to the usual British weather.

I probably should have just stayed in bed this morning, but I just couldn’t resist the temptation to head out in the hope of a magical sunrise. As expected once I looked outside, it was pretty dull so I had to make do with this.

As if being Friday wasn’t good enough, starting off the day with scenes like this just make life so much better.

The very talented Wendy Griffin creating another masterpiece at Bordeaux harbour. Sorry Wendy, I couldn’t resist taking the shot!

I’d hoped the sky would pick up a little more colour this morning. Tides were right, boats orientated away from the sun but only light pastel shades emerged. Never a wasted journey though!

There was potential on the horizon but the clouds moved in so Plan B was on the cards.

Finally after three days of greyness, the summer has returned! Still had to double up the layers this morning thought.

It wasn’t the magical beginning or end to the solstice but wen the sun broke through it felt pretty good.

Bordeaux Harbour with an incoming shower slowly creeping in. That rainbow got pretty big and stuck around for nearly half an hour.

Unless it’s pissing down with rain, I get up every day an hour before sunrise to hopefully see what I don’t want to miss. Some days are well worth it and even if it’s not, try again another day.

Loving these gorgeous still mornings. With such a large tidal range at the moment, you need to work quickly. One minute you set up, the next you’re nearly knee deep in water.

With such big tides and a relatively flat seabed, I was forced away from my initial set up pretty quickly. The good thing was it forced me to not shoot the same old thing. That said, I will be back when all the boats are back in the water.

Bordeaux at low tide is a great place to explore with all the boats and ripples in the sand, its just a case of putting it all into one frame.

Autumn finally settling in and it was only a matter of time before a rainbow appeared. As soon as this rain cloud rolled in I knew where I had to be.

Got up to let the pooch out at 05:15 and the sky was starting to pick up a bit of colour. Mad (but sensible) drive to the coast with minutes to spare before all the clouds moved east.

Finding inspiration is all part of the challenge but on days like this it’s harder than ever to get a shot I’m happy with. The tides, wind direction and cloud cover were just about favourable to pull this one off. A few more breaks in the cloud would have been nice but you can’t win them all!

I stuck around for a while, hoping a rainbow would appear. The conditions were perfect but the rain had drifted off to in the wrong direction to make it happen.
